LARGE ANIMAL TECH

A Large Animal Tech assists veterinarians in the care, treatment, and handling of large animals. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with medical exams and procedures

  • Administering medications, vaccines, and treatments

  • Handling and restraining animals safely

  • Conducting diagnostic tests (blood work, imaging, fecal exams, etc.)

  • Assisting with surgeries and wound care

  • Educating animal owners on proper care and disease prevention

  • Keeping records and maintaining medical equipment

Large Animal Techs can be required to work in farm settings, ranches, and the veterinary clinic. Because of the nature of large animals, the job often requires physical strength, patience, and knowledge of animal behavior.
